As golf legend Arnold Palmer famously once said:

“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.”

Here at Performance Golf, we have to agree! We’ve made it our mission to help amateur golfers play the best golf of their lives and enjoy every minute of it.

Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been in love with golf for the last 20 years, these are some ways you can fully immerse yourself in the game and even improve your technique – on and off the course.

10 Easy Golf Tips to Up Your Game

1. Follow Your Favorite Players Online

Success leaves hints and clues if you choose to look for them, and you can learn a lot from the best players in the world by simply observing. Follow your favorite successful golfers on social media for any golf tips they’ll share, plus behind the scenes look of a pro golfer.

2. Utilize Golf Apps

As Arnold Palmer mentioned, golf is maddening at times, but current technology makes this often difficult game a lot more enjoyable. Utilize different golf apps to record/analyze your swing, play different formats, stay motivated, and learn different golf-specific exercises.

Also, make sure to document your journey with regular swing videos to see how far you’ve progressed over the years. With consistent practice, you’ll be amazed at how much you can improve.

4. Keep Swinging in the Offseason

Don’t let the offseason kill your game! There are tons of things you can do to stay sharp and prepare for the upcoming season.

Here are some useful ideas:

  • Watch golf on TV to learn from the pros.
  • Buy an indoor putting green and work on short putts.
  • Buy a set of chipping buckets/targets for the backyard.
  • Take 50-100 practice swings a day (use a training aid for extra credit).

If the weather clears up, go to the driving range and check out our guide to golf practice.

5. Watch a Professional Golf Tournament

Depending on where you live, it’s a great idea to watch a professional tournament in person if possible. It’s fun to see your favorite players up close and personal as you watch elite-level golf.

If you do get a chance to watch golf in person, make sure to get there early and visit the driving range too.

Enjoy the sounds of absolute perfection when it comes to ball striking and then follow your favorite players for a few holes. It’s fun to see how they hit different shots, battle the conditions, navigate challenges, and interact with fans.

6. Try Out Golf Training Aids

While YouTube videos are great, sometimes you need something a little more hands-on; like a golf swing training aid. The right training aid can help you improve your grip, takeaway, backswing, and/or downswing.

We have a range of affordable and easy-to-use training aids to simplify the golf swing. There are a few of our favorites that you can use at home to practice your swing off the course at any time that’s convenient for you.

  • The Launch Deck: Fix your slice and hit it longer than ever with an upward attack angle.
  • Click Stick: Learn to hit it longer and straighter than ever by increasing lag and mastering your release.

Or, if you want more in-depth training, you can always check out our Training Programs from top coaches.

7. Book a Bucket List Trip

If you need to escape winter weather or simply want a golf-themed vacation, book a bucket list trip. This might be somewhere like Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, TPC Sawgrass, Pinehurst, or another iconic venue.

Golf trips with friends and family are a great way to appreciate the game even more and change up your environment. Plus, you never know, you might have something incredible happen like your first eagle or maybe even a hole-in-one.

8. Join a League

One of the best golf tips you can put into action is to play with new people from time to time.

While it’s okay to have a normal group you regularly hit the greens with, sometimes playing with strangers is a great way to mix it up. Not only can you learn from new people, but you might make business or personal friendships too.

Try to find an afternoon/twilight league at your local country club, take a look on local Facebook groups, or attend a golf networking event if you’re able.

9. Get Some New Gear

Don’t make golf harder by playing with the wrong equipment. Visit a golf store near you, and test out new gear to see how it impacts distance and accuracy.

Another fun way to mix it up and even improve your confidence is grabbing yourself some new golf clothes so you look good on the course. The better you look, the better you’ll play (it worked well for Tiger Woods, right?). It’s all about the mental game. Speaking of such…

10. Master the Mental Game

We’ve established how great of a game golf is, but it is one that can bring a lot of stress if you’re not careful. Your attitude can ruin a great day on the links and even cause you to give up or simply lose your enjoyment.

Whether you just want to have more fun or take your game to the next level, learn more about the mental game. The right attitude, body language, and self-talk can make a massive difference in playing to your potential and enjoying the journey.

Most Importantly, Enjoy the Greatest Game Ever

Use these golf tips to have more fun as you strive toward your potential.

Regardless of your skill level, make it a point to always enjoy your time at the course. As the saying goes, “A miserable day on the golf course still beats a good day at the office.”
