Adding distance to your drives can be a game-changer, helping you reach greens more easily and shave strokes off your score. The great news is, you don’t need to swing harder or faster to achieve it. With a few simple adjustments, you can maximize your swing’s potential and add 40 or more yards to your drives, especially for senior golfers or those wanting to prevent and/or reduce strain from injury.

Key Golf Swing Adjustments for More Distance

This golf swing guide covers three essential tips to increase your driving distance without changing your swing speed. Let’s jump into it here, and be sure to watch the above video from Performance Golf coach Andrew Rice in a real-life lesson, to help you follow along with these golf swing tips!

1. Tee the Ball Higher

One of the easiest ways to add distance is by teeing the ball higher. Many golfers fear that teeing the ball high will cause them to pop it up, but in reality, it helps launch the ball higher, which results in more carry and longer drives. When the ball is teed higher, you can get a better angle to hit up on it, producing a higher trajectory with lower spin, which is key to getting more distance.

Tip: Experiment with a higher golf tee height and observe how the ball launches – a higher launch angle often leads to more distance, even with the same swing speed.

2. Adjust Your Setup with Spine Tilt

Another important factor in hitting the ball farther is your setup. Adding a slight spine tilt away from the target will naturally help you hit up on the ball, rather than hitting it on a downward or level angle. This upward strike is essential for creating more carry and maximizing distance.

Tip: When setting up, feel as though your spine is angled slightly away from the target. This creates the proper body position to launch the ball high into the air. You should feel more weight on your back foot to maintain this tilt throughout your swing.

3. Optimize Energy Transfer and Release

Efficient energy transfer is key to maximizing distance. Focus on releasing the club through impact to transfer the most energy to the ball. Many golfers hold back or fail to release the club fully, resulting in lost power. By allowing the club to release naturally, you can maximize the energy transfer at the point of impact.

Tip: As you swing, visualize releasing the club through the ball, with most of the energy concentrated at the bottom of the swing. This will ensure that you’re transferring maximum energy into the ball for a longer, more powerful drive.

Unlocking Your Golf Swing’s True Distance Potential

These simple adjustments—teeing the ball higher, tweaking your spine tilt, and focusing on energy release—can have a dramatic effect on your driving distance. Even without increasing your swing speed, you can add 40+ yards by using these techniques.

Small changes to your setup and swing can help you make the most of the power you already have, leading to longer, more accurate drives.
